Birthday Invitation Cards For Kids
Birthday Invitation Cards For Kids

Would it be rude to give a gift at a 3 yr b-day party, even though the invite says “no gifts”? ?

We’re invited to a 3 yr old’s birthday party. The invitation says “No gifts, just your presence”. I’ve never been to a child’s party without a gift, so I don’t know how to handle this (even though the invitation says what it says).

We don’t know the child/family well, and I don’t know any of the other guests to ask if they’re really “not” going to bring a gift. I have offered to bring food or at least something to contribute . . . but the mom/host only emailed “We look forward to seeing you all!”

For sure we’ll get the birthday kid a card . . . but I somehow still feel obligated to sneak in even the smallest gift (even a gift card to stick in the card). But would that even be wrong? I guess it’s that I feel awkward more than anything.

What happens if everyone did bring a gift afterall, and we came empty-handed? I’d feel so embarrased . . . but then again, same if we came with a gift and everyone else didn’t. HELP!!

Buy a gift just in case, or bring some food/drink, like you said.

Even if the invitation says no gifts, the fact that you bring one shows how considerate you are and generally the people appreciate it regardless.

Often when people write ‘no gifts’, it’s just to make the guest feel more comfortable, and less concerned about what to buy the child (maybe most of parents invited don’t know the child like yourselves). Plus she must feel her child is already spoiled enough.

Unless the mother has made it very clear she would be upset or angry if a gift was bought, i think if you feel obliged, do so.

If all fails bring food/drink trust me, the parent of the child will LOVE it!
